PIP Limitations in Florida
Most Florida drivers are aware of the Personal Injury Protection insurance requirement and many have used this insurance to seek medical care for their injuries following an accident. It is important to understand that this form of coverage has its limitations will not be applicable to every circumstance. Some of the common limitations are listed below:
1) If the driver or passenger is insured
If the driver or passenger are insured by their own PIP policy because they own a car in Florida, that insurance company can compensate for their injuries
2) Exemptions
Drivers of school buses, limousines, taxicabs, motorcycles (and others with less than four wheels), mobile homes or inoperable vehicles are not required to carry PIP coverage
3) The per accident limit
The $10,000 PIP coverage is per accident, so if you are involved in another during the same year or policy, the coverage will restart. Unless you carry more than $10,000 in PIP coverage, the sum cannot be multiplied if the cost to treat your injuries exceeds the limit.
4) Exclusions
Massage therapy and acupuncture are not covered services under PIP, so you will have to use another source of payment.
